Food Processing Organization

Client Challenge
Our client, a leading food processing corporation, needed staffing support in their engineering, information services, administrative, manufacturing, marketing, field sales, and research and development areas. In analyzing their national staffing strategy, they realized that they lacked a uniform pricing structure, and they were also unable to capture the overall spending for outsourced services.

With well over 25 individual staffing suppliers, they were not tracking the effectiveness or quality of services. Additionally, our client uncovered numerous high cost consulting contracts that were providing staff augmentation, rather than consulting services in software development, accounting and finance, and legal functions. This was identified as an additional focus area to realize savings and improve effectiveness.


Our Solution
System One was chosen as the primary vendor to provide staffing services throughout the United States. For the past 10 years, we have worked with our client and successfully staffed projects ranging in duration from several weeks to several years. We have worked in partnership to develop overall policies and procedures, as well as an employee orientation program. Projects have included construction of a new plant as well as an upgrade of both hardware and software of the entire corporation's desktop applications.

Through our permanent recruitment services, we have staffed production projects requiring more than 200 employees and also managed the entire employee hiring process for our client. In addition to providing targeted local recruiting, we have provided national recruiting services for their field sales team to generate a high volume of employees across the U.S. We also set up a temp-to-direct program, providing our client the option of converting contingent workers to full-time employees after a three-month trial period. This has decreased the administrative burden for our client and has also led to additional savings.


The Results
Through a complete managed staffing program, System One has enabled our client to focus on its core competencies. Today, between 400 and 900 System One employees are on assignment at any given time, depending on varying demands during peak production periods.

Our overall impact has been dramatic and in one year alone, "hard" cost savings of approximately $500,000 were realized. Since our client moved away from consulting service contracts in the areas of software, accounting and finance and legal, an additional $500,000 in savings has resulted. In addition, logging our employee hours directly into our client's system captured real time costs and provided an additional savings.
